Intro

More than 25 years ago I made an attempt of copying the Dutch translation of The Hobbit by Max Schuchart. I finished about 2 third of it, but eventually gave up; I dont't exactly recall why, probably because I wasn't satisfied with the result or just by sheer lack of stamina. Yet the urge of one day completing a handwritten copy of the work kept lingering in the back of my mind for many years, until early 2011 I decided to have another go at it, this time taking the original version as example.This second attempt was more succesful, that's to say I succeeded in completing a fully handwritten copy of J.R.R. Tolkien's The Hobbit! Only towards the end of the copying process the idea of presenting an impression of the actual writing and the final result on the internet came to my mind. This means there's no video footage other than a short clip taken with a smartphone. On the other hand of course there's no lack of scans and photos, a number of which can be seen in this blog.
